about sehrish ali

This presentation will provide current research on how perceived body satisfaction and weight stigma among multicultural groups are connected with one's level of acculturation. A deeper exploration of how minorities negatively internalize messages around body dissatisfaction and beauty ideals in comparison to majority culture will be examined. We highlight the impact of minority clients' lack of access and tendency to shorter lengths of stay in treatment compared to other racial groups. We will speak to the Health at Every Size paradigm and its efficacy to increasing ethical competency of working with various body shapes and racial identities. We will close with how to integrate a client’s cultural background and cultural identity into treatment planning.
